INJORA 4.64" King Trekker S5 Long Term Review
The 4.64" King Trekkers have got to be some of the best tyres I've used on my Element Gatekeeper, particularly for the aggressive limestone rock crawling that I do nearly every weekend.
As with all of INJORA's S5 compound tyres I've experienced, the rubber conforms beautifully to the shape of the rocks, providing excellent traction across uneven surfaces. The included foams are exactly what we've come to know and love about INJORA, offering enough flexibility to let the tyre work with the terrain while maintaining sufficient sidewall support under heavy sidehill loads, without excessively folding over.
The tread pattern and sidewall design are where these tyres really shine for me. The relatively large, well spaced lugs have proven ideal for the terrain I regularly tackle. Rather than relying on a tightly packed tread pattern, the King Trekkers have substantial individual blocks that can bite into irregular rock surfaces, providing confidence when attempting some seriously challenging lines. The aggressive shoulder lugs are another highlight. On the limestone formations I regularly crawl, finding traction isn't always about keeping the tread flat against the rock. Quite often, the Gatekeeper is wedged between boulders, climbing out of deep crevices or relying almost entirely on the tyre's shoulder to maintain forward momentum. This is where the King Trekkers have really impressed me, with their pronounced sidewall tread providing additional opportunities to find grip when the main contact patch isn't doing all the work.
One of the biggest things I've appreciated is how predictable they've been. When tackling particularly awkward lines, knowing how a tyre is likely to react to changing surfaces makes a considerable difference. The combination of the S5 compound, tread design and supportive foams has given me the confidence to push the Gatekeeper through obstacles that can sometimes be deeper than the truck itself.
Durability is another important consideration. These tyres have endured countless sessions across extremely abrasive limestone, with sharp edges, rough surfaces and considerable loads being placed on individual tread blocks. As expected, the compound and tread have gradually shown signs of wear, particularly around the edges of the lugs and by the few tears forming where the abrasions have caught a weak point. However, considering the punishment they've received, I've been thoroughly impressed with their overall performance throughout their lifespan.
Eventually, the wear became enough to justify retiring them in favour of INJORA's Kraken Claws. That being said, I wouldn't hesitate to run another set of King Trekkers in the future.
For anyone regularly crawling on rough, jagged rock formations, especially where sidewall traction, flexibility and predictable grip are important, I would absolutely recommend giving these a go.
An outstanding all round rock crawling tyre that's earned its retirement the hard way.
